[영어] 명사 presupposition의 어원과 의미

영단어를 암기하던 중 selectional restriction의 뜻과 품사가 헷갈려 이를 캠브릿지딕셔너리와 윅셔너리를 참고하여 정리해봤습니다.

1. presupposition의 어원

라틴어로 '앞에(prae-) 아래에(sub-) 두다(pōnō)'라는 뜻의 라틴어 동사 praesuppōnō [ㅍ라에숲포노]에서 '(말하기 전에) 미리 밑에 두는 것'이란 뜻의 영어 명사 presupposition이 등장합니다.

그렇게 presupposition는 '예상(추정, 상정, 전제)'이라는 뜻을 가집니다.
